Mileage reimbursement calculator
Free mileage reimbursement calculator: miles × rate per mile, preset with the 2026 IRS business, medical or moving, and charity mileage rates.
Reimbursement
$190.00
Rate used
$0.76 / mile
When to use the standard mileage rate
The IRS standard mileage rate is a simplified alternative to tracking actual vehicle expenses. Use the 2026 IRS rate when you want a quick, defensible reimbursement that already bundles fuel, maintenance, and wear into one per‑mile figure. Keep basic logs of date, purpose, and miles driven.
Example
250 business miles in August 2026 at $0.76/mile = $190. If a trip spans both halves of 2026, split the miles by date and apply the appropriate rate for each period.
Notes and caveats
This calculator does not determine tax deductibility. Charity and medical/moving rates differ from business miles and are much lower by law. Always confirm current rates with official IRS notices.
These are the IRS optional standard mileage rates for 2026 (IR-2025-128 and the July 2026 update). This is not tax advice and not an IRS determination.
FAQ
What is the IRS standard mileage rate?
An optional per-mile rate the IRS publishes for business, medical or moving, and charitable driving. You can use it instead of tracking actual vehicle costs.
Why does 2026 have two business rates?
The IRS set 72.5 cents per mile for January 1–June 30, 2026, then raised the business rate to 76 cents for July 1–December 31, 2026. Use the rate for the dates you drove.
How is the charity rate different from the business rate?
The charitable rate is set by law at 14 cents per mile and does not change with fuel costs. The business rate is updated by the IRS and is much higher.
How is reimbursement calculated?
Miles driven × rate per mile.
